I get these shots in my back for the stenosis and spondylotisis which cause me grave, debilitating pain. Today I get the 5th shot out of a series of 3. Yes, the 5th of 3. Back in January they started doing these epidural steroid shots at the block center at the hospital. The first one worked great, and my pain decreased for about 5 days. Then the pain came creeping back. They gave me the second shot, which hurt like a motherfucker and didn’t relieve my pain at all. So when shot #3′s time came they said “hmmm…That didn’t seem to work at all, so let’s call it a bogey and do the SAME series of shots under X-Ray guidance“.
So, on February 22 I went into same day surgery and got shot #3 (or #1, depending how you look at it) and POOF!!! Worked like a charm. Two weeks with virtually NO PAIN. Shit, do you know how long it has been since I’ve been able to claim a pain scale under 4? Amazing. Lasted for about 10 days and then a wee little pain started to return. Doc says that’s normal and that the second shot should knock the inflammation out and give me some REAL relief.
Cool.
So I don’t know if it’s the shots, the oxycotin, or a combination of them both, but heck, my back has been feeling pretty good. My big problem is that I don’t get out of the hospital until 3:30 pm and since I’m unable to eat post midnight of the night before I’m starving!!!
Me and food…a constant dysfunctional relationship

when you look into the abyss, the abyss looks back into you…
The fact is that at a very, very young age I looked. I looked into the abyss and it looked back. I found comfort in its vast spance of everything/nothing. I kept the door open. When out of my childhood, and into my adolescence and struggling with everything that made “reality” the abyss became a comfortable home. I enjoyed the swim and challenge through Amnion that lead to the world of doors and to other worlds than this. I don’t know if I became an expert, but I certainly became proficient.

This picture was taken in 2002 and my daughter, Mia and I had heard that there was a buffalo farm near us. We took a ride on a grey winter morning and found it. The buffalo are in the way back of the photo, but this burrow was very friendly and let Mia pet his nose and sniff her out! I like this photo.
