SPotD: yak-yak-yak
Spiritual Practice of the Day
Don’t be afraid. Fear has tortured us throughout our lives. It’s just the Ego talking, making up stories.
— Rimpoche Nawang Gehlek in Good Life, Good Death
To Practice This Thought: Don’t listen to the Ego’s yak-yak-yak.
NaNoWriMo starts on SUNDAY!!!
Note from Chris, the NaNoBeing:
Dear National Novel Writing Month Author,
Hi there! NaNoWriMo Program Director Chris Baty here. It’s so great to have you writing with us! Before we get rolling, I wanted to send you a quick guide to our upcoming month of literary abandon.
Here’s the plan:
Today: If you haven’t already, please make a tax-deductible donation to help us pay for National Novel Writing Month and NaNoWriMo’s Young Writers Program. NaNoWriMo is a nonprofit, and we’ve spent nearly half a million dollars getting this swashbuckling adventure ready for 150,000 adults and 35,000 kids and teens around the world. Our goal is to pay off this year’s expenses and set aside enough to expand and improve both programs next year. With your help, we’ll do it! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far! more))
NftU: de-Whacker
Any attempt to measure one’s progress in life with an assessment of their present physical surroundings, or even a panoramic glance at their life and times to date, is just plain “whacked.” The reason being, China, is that each journey, kind of like a haircut, should never be fully appraised until it’s complete. Otherwise, one might mistaken a miracle-in-the-making for a setback, loss, or the “wet-look.”
Your cosmic barber and de-whacker,
The Universe
Tarot: ATU.XVIII “The Moon”
THE MOON
Basic Card Symbols
A full moon (with a crescent within), twin pillars, two dogs/wolves howling, a stream that runs to the ocean, a crayfish emerging out of the water.
Basic Tarot Story
Following the star the Fool travels through the night. The full Moon rises, illuminating for him a watery path. And he begins to feel disoriented, as if walking in his sleep. He passes under the moon, between two pillars ancient and strange. Suddenly, he looks around to find himself in another land entirely. When he was in the presence of the High Priestess, he saw hints of this dark land through the sheer veil draped behind her throne. And later, when he hung from the tree, he felt himself between the physical world and this one. Now, he has at last passed behind the veil. Here are the mysteries he sought, at least, here are the dark mysteries, ones that have to do with the most primal and ancient powers; powers of nature, not of civilization. It is a land poets, artists, musicians and madmen know well, a terrifying, alluring place, with very different rules. Wolves, howling in homage to the moon, run wild across this land, hunting along side maidens with bow and arrows; and creatures from childhood nightmares and fantasies peer from shadows, eyes glowing.
The path the Fool was walking is now a river, and he stands hip-deep in the powerful pull of its salty, moonlit waters. There is, on the nearby shore, a small boat, but it has no rudder, no oar. The Fool realizes he has only two choices. He can lose himself in this desolate, primal land of madness and illusion, howl with the wolves, be hunted down, or he can get into the boat, and trust himself to the river. The moon will be in control either way, but in the boat, his surrender to the powers of the unconscious and the natural world will at least take him somewhere. As the artists and poets and magicians know, inspiration, visions, genius, Moon magic, are the rewards of such surrender. The Fool gets into the boat, and shoves off. As the waters sweep him away, moon beams light his “path” and he feels the Mistress of this dark land gazing down at him with the High Priestess’s approving eyes.
Basic Meaning
With Pisces as its ruling sign, the Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. The Querent who gets this card should be warned that they may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if they have any past mental problems, they must be vigilant in taking their medication. They should avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. They can and should trust their intuition.
Thirteen’s Observations
This is the card of that scary, dreamy, secret otherworld where lies the most powerful and dark magic. Primal magic. It is the card that you’d get for Jackson Pollack types, switching between being wild, mean, crazy drunks and creative geniuses. They have wicked mood swings, dark, dark, dark depressions, charming manic modes. They have no inhibitions, don’t even try to behave themselves in polite society, their crazy behavior sometimes inspired, sometimes horribly embarrassing, even unbelievable and even dangerous. But the art, poetry, music they produce….it’s magic. When I get this card, I let the Querent know they’re in for an emotional and mental rollercoaster ride. They can do two things, either wander through this crazy, lunatic landscape howling at the moon (get drunk, wallow in depression, alienate friends and family with wild, antisocial behavior), or get in a boat and go through it purposefully (paint something!).

Horoscope – All Hallows Eve (1 day to change)
Libra – 30 Oct 2009
Today the Stars suggest that you curb your impulses in the work environment. Give greater assurances and pay more attention to the work of others. Love wise, the day turns out to be flat and lacking in novelty.
Don’t always look at life from the most negative point of view. Today maybe you want to teach people things that you feel they need to know. Try to be honest and straightforward but make sure that you don’t allow a note of self-righteousness to creep in to your discussion. Keeping detached and unemotional is the key.
The Moon’s entry into your 7th House of Partnerships today can increase relationship stress, especially if others seem too pushy for your taste. You might put up walls to protect yourself emotionally, but this will probably just increase your sense of isolation. Instead of closing yourself off, try to understand your partner’s point of view. From there, you have a good chance of establishing common ground where everyone can feel better about the situation.
Daily Vedic Moon Sign horoscope
Capricorn – 30 Oct 2009
Today may be one of the day when you could have a fixed goal to work towards. You may be concerned about reaching your target if you plan a little more closely and be thorough in your planning you could possibly achieve more.
Daily Chinese Sign horoscope
Dog – 30 Oct 2009
By happenstance, you may receive extra money. Try not to spend it all in one place but set some aside for future requirements. You might want to go on a short trip to visit a friend who lives a distance away and have an enjoyable time catching up on the latest news and seeing the sights of the area.
I-Ching: “The Turning Point” (#24)
Tarot: ATU.XVIII THE MOON – “Dreams”
Dreams often hold answers that the logical mind does not. Intuition is often brilliant, lighting the night. Act with your heart and your soul. Logic will be clear to you later.
Rune: THURISAZ
Thurisaz, literally “Giant”, signifies destruction and defense. A conflict simmers which brings change. Force is directed, and force must react. After conflict and destruction comes new growth. Sexual tension.
Rune: THURISAZ “Giant”
“If we must fight for peace then let us find our peace in battle.”
Thurisaz - “Thor-is-as” – Literally: “Thurses” or “Giants” – Esoteric: Strong one, Resistance
Key Concepts: Unconscious forces, sociological forces, Thor, Loki as giant, chaos, destruction by natural forces, complexities of aggression, conflicts, disputes, psychological problems, lightning, breakthrough, aggressive male sexuality, battering down barriers, thorn of awakening, trouble, enthusiasm
Psi: enthusiasm, struggle against unconsciousness, male sexual prowess
Energy: enthusiasm, self-empowerment, chaos, active defensive force, breaker of resistance, destructive storms
Mundane: storms, tools, weapons, conflict
Divinations: Reactive force, directed force, vital eroticism, regenerative catalyst, constructive conflict; or danger, defenselessness, compulsion, betrayal, dullness, disease, explosive violence, annoyance, strife
Governs:
Destruction of enemies, curses binds and fetters
Awakening of the will to action
Breaking resistance of blockages in body, mind and spirit
Increased potency and prowess in romantic relationships
Understanding of the division and separation of all things
Aiming the use of psychic force
The combination of right/left brain processes for generating powerful realization
My Notes:
It’s not uncommon for the rune meaning of Thurisaz to be described as a thorn that is most sharp, a grim and evil thing to take grip on or touch. However, it is representative of Thor and his hammer, protecting Asgard from the thurses, giants who resist the expansion of consciousness throughout the multiverse. In every respect, the energies of Thurisaz are a forceful enemy of unconsciousness, ignorance and the rule of brute violence. Thurisaz represents the warrior that combines consciousness and wisdom with matters requiring force. Thor is the champion god of courageous and free human beings and the ultimate physical fighting force.
Thurisaz is also a fertility rune in the sense that it breaks down the barren and hard, rocky realms into workable soil as to bring fruitfulness to crops and wombs. The best mental state for working with the rune is enthusiasm, rather than anger or fear, as the former will much better sustain right awareness and diminish the potential danger of dealing with strong Thurisaz magic.
This early rune is representative of the use of tools and technology (so is KENAZ, to an extent), whether physical or psychological, especially as weapons of protection or active resistance against forces detrimental to the expansion of consciousness and awareness signified by DAGAZ. Human consciousness is a state of mind that evolved from pre-existing state of unconscious which continually strives to re-establish itself. Unless we promote consciousness actively in living out our lives we will succumb to entropy.
The power of Thurisaz is easily located because it is on the borderline, the frontier of consciousness. It is wise to never start a fight, but if one has started, be sure to finish it.

SILENCE
A day of Silence
Can be a pilgrimage in itself.A day of Silence
Can help you listen
To the Soul play
Its marvelous lute and drum.Is not most talking
A crazed defense of a crumbling fort?I thought we came here
To surrender in Silence,To yield to Light and Happiness,
To Dance within
In celebration of Love’s Victory!

NftU: Projections
Life, China, is not what you see, but what you’ve projected. It’s not what you’ve felt, but what you’ve decided. It’s not what you’ve experienced, but how you’ve remembered it. It’s not what you’ve forged, but what you’ve allowed. And it’s not who’s appeared, but who you’ve summoned.
And this should serve you well, beloved, until you find, what you already have.

| October 27 | Living in the present |
“We want to look our past in the face, see it for what it really was, and release it so we can live today.”
Basic Text, p. 29
––––=––––
For many of us, the past is like a bad dream. Our lives aren’t the same any more, but we still have fleeting, highly charged emotional memories of a really uncomfortable past. The guilt, fear, and anger that once dominated us may spill into our new life, complicating our efforts to change and grow.
The Twelve Steps are the formula that helps us learn to put the past in its place. Through the Fourth and Fifth Steps, we become aware that our old behavior didn’t work. We ask a Higher Power to relieve us of our shortcomings in the Sixth and Seventh Steps, and we begin to be relieved of the guilt and fear that plagued us for so many years. In the Eighth and Ninth Steps, by making amends, we demonstrate to others that our lives are changing. We are no longer controlled by the past. Once the past loses its control over us, we are free to find new ways to live, ways that reflect who we truly are.
––––=––––
Just for today: I don’t have to be controlled by my past. I will live this new day as the new person I am becoming.
NftU: Dessert
People who live only for dessert, China, very rarely enjoy the main course.
And sometimes a meal is like life.
Bon appétit,

A Revolution in Kindness
An Excerpt from A Revolution in Kindness edited by Anita Roddick
Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop and social activist par excellence, is the editor of this paperback that lauds the spiritual practice of kindness. Here is an excerpt on kindness from Matthew Fox.
“A kind religious world — now there lies a radical idea. Can we imagine a world where Jews and Muslims are not fighting over a Holy Land that supposedly was left exclusively to each by a confused God who is the God of both? more))
