A music video made in honor of the day of Sekhmet – The protector of the pharaohs and led them in warfare. As an Eye of Ra it was Sekhmets duty to destroy the Pharaohs enemies in battle. She brought about plague and pestilence when appropriate – none of her actions were ever undeserved. All balanced in True Light.

The Heart of Each Song

// July 17th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // magick

The soul of each song is as follows: [from: The Seven Songs of Wizardry

  1. Changing - All of us, all living things, have the potential to change. Merlin also thinks of a relevant saying his mother told him – The butterfly can change from a mere worm to the most beautiful creature of all. And the soul, my son, can do the same.
  2. Binding - The strongest bonds are of the heart
  3. Protecting - The best way to protect something is to set it free. Naming – For a true name holds true power
  4. Leaping - Everything is connected to everything else.
  5. Eliminating - Every living thing is precious somehow.
  6. Seeing - The heart can see things invisible to the eye.

The Seven Songs of Wizardry

The Seven Songs of Wizardry,
One melody and many,
May guide ye to the Otherworld,
Though hope ye have not any.

Divine the truth within each Song
Before ye may proceed.
For truths like trees for ages grow,
Yet each begins a seed.

Pursue the Seven Songs in turn;
The parts beget the whole.
But never move until ye find
Each Song’s essential soul. (more…)

Shadowperson #01

// June 16th, 2010 // No Comments » // art, art, magick

Back in 2004 I started making “Shadowpeople.”  These were folk-art sculpture made from found wood and painted with acrylics, ash, pigments, blood and all sorts of other ritual items. There are to be a complete set of 34 shadowpeople and to this day only 18 have been made.

They were originally a way for me to process some paradigm-shifts and some manifest world dilemmas.  They are both guardians and friends.  Some are fun, some are scary.  I think they are all parts of myself.

This was found on the reverse side of Shadowperson #01.  The first guy I made:

The first of the 34 Watchers to come.  Not “my” Watchers, but “the” Watchers.  They came through me, but only because I’m the ABRAXAS gate.

Griffin - My faithful familiar

Griffin - My faithful familiar

On September 26, 2009 my 13-year-old familiar and faithful kitty Griffin passed away.

In July of 2008 he has something akin to a stroke and was all wobbly for about a week.  He had stabilized by the time I took him to the vet a few days later, but inside I knew that I was living with him on borrowed time.

I got Griffin as a spindly-legged Louisiana Swamp Cat.  I was living in New Orleans in 1996 and was thinking about getting a kitty.  I was actually talking to a friend aobut this when outside the window of Kaldi’s Coffee House on Decatur in the French Quarter I see this wispy little orange ring-tail sauntering past a window.  Since the window was about five feet off the sidewalk I ran out to see what it was doing.  Outside were some gutter-punks spanging on the corner and I asked if that was their kitty and could I hold it.

They told me that some friends came through town with him and left him there and that there were trying to find a home for the little guy.  I told them not to worry that I’d take him.  So Griffin rode down Esplanade with me, riding inside my scooter helmet and covered in fleas.

In those first days he got no fewer than five flea baths with different products, but every time I dunked him in a bucket of dip all the fleas would just climb up to his head.  So dense were his fleas that they literally would fall off his head into the water because they had no more real-estate left up top.

And so, on day five we went to the vet and invested a couple of hundred bucks in a brand-new flea medication called “Front-line” and “Advantage”.  It was the first time I had ever a significant chunk of my own money in taking care of an animal.  And with that, the fleas died, his shots were up to date, he was registered to me on his rabies tag and I had my first baby!

It was just him and me for the first two years and he moved with me from NOLA to Colorado, where I followed a guy.  That relationship quickly deteriorated and I moved back to Ohio, with Griffin to recollect during the summer.  I learned I left Colorado with more than myself and Griffin when I learned in July that I was pregnant.  Griffin and I had many deep conversations on the back patio and I decided that I was going to undertake the responsibility of being a single mom.  As I bought baby stuff, Griffin thought I was buying him elaborate cat toys.

This has been my life…

// August 23rd, 2009 // No Comments » // funny-bone, life the universe and everything, magick

At times… I have been the dude on the sofa (circa 1986 -1992), Gen at the door (1992 – 1996) and the dude in the tie (2004 – current).

So I found this incredibly funny…and appropriate.  Okay.  I’m off to deal with LOA and the Cup of Babalon.  Fun fun.  Nothing like doing the 18 – Keys bunked cozily up agings LIL2TEX then boomerang it around and do TEX2LIL.

Whoo whee.  Yeah.  I’m completely aware I sound like a nut-job right now.  You would too if you tried this crazy shite!  And NOW….the movie.

Entry from MageJournal from August 27, 2008:

Found the middle path through obstacles of dream, filling out and filling in when nothings as it seems.  The lessons learned list on from the tails of orange tabbed kitties.  Undoing scars from reasons past.  You know that’s never pretty.  I offer you my tin can hand.  And my shrapnel place.  You offer me your one last hope, your one last search for grace.  Upon the heaping piles of rot in this charnel ground.  We make our stand and take my hand with damage all around.  Suited up in chaos, knowing nothings as it seems.  We slide ourselves together in the places in between.  Where we might craft ourselves a dream.  A small, unfettered dream.

I have a confession…

I have a HUGE and rather embarrassing crush on Severus Snape, and no Mr. Rickman, it’s not just the voice.  It’s the most potent potion master, wizard excellente,  and his dark, mottled persona that cloaks his heart of gold.

(maybe I just told you too much about myself…never mind.  I take it all back! ;) )

The Icarus Moment

"Icarus" by Matisse

"Icarus" by Matisse

The Icarus Moment is something that I’ve thought about for a decade now.  It is that moment, when one tries to fly too close to the sun, for too long…that one’s wings melt, and they plunge into the oceanic abyss.  Sometimes this is a mortal event, one that terminates the life and rescinds the promise of existence.  For others, like myself, it merely rends the wings from our souls and renders us mortal, for ever after, with only the memory of flying.

For a disclaimer:
I am not trained in psychology, nor sociology, nor any endeavour of academic pursuit.  I am no expert or professional, unless embracing this chance to be human counts me as a professional one with a degree of mortality.  I am just a girl, a woman, who thinks and feels and is frightened.  A woman who walks across the rickety bridge even though she’s not confident that it will hold her.  I am a woman who loves more strongly than wisely and who plots her course with the heart and only the whispering nagging of the brain.  I’m a woman who has endured e v e r y t h i n g…and nothing and because of that I AM.
Are you? (more…)

What happens on a snow day…

// December 23rd, 2008 // 1 Comment » // family, funny-bone, life the universe and everything, magick, personal

Last Friday, December 19th, my nine-year-old daughter’s school reported a snow day.  Cool for her, because she gets an extra day of winter vacation.  Not-so-cool for me…because I still have to go to work.  My beau, P, told me that since he had the day off, that he could stay at my place and watch her so she didn’t have to go to the hideous child-care center all day.

Very cool.  That means video games, home cooked food and general rest and relaxation, right!!!

He asks if there is anything around the house that needs done and I tell him that a load of laundry through the wash might be nice.

During the day I send TXT messages and call every now and again, just to make sure all is progressing smoothly.  The end of the year is a very busy time in my line of work and I had meetings pretty much clogging up most of the day.

But the “Phone-of-Doom” keeps me pretty connected.  It can receive and send not only phone calls, but TXT, MMS, email from various accounts and alien signals.  Going into a 2 hour and 30 minute meeting I TXT a status call to P:

“Everything still going smoothly”

About half-way through a very tense meeting, where coffee-cups are being slammed onto tabletops in frustration and eyebrows are flying and eyes are rolling I get a little buzz on my phone.  It whispers to me “MMS message from P” I say “View” and this picture comes up:  Shadowperson Lingere

I can see it’s one of my “Shadowpeople” wall sculptures…but why is it curvy? I text back “What is that?”

I’m informed that they are dressing up my Shadowpeople…my dark guardians from the abyss and Hell realms, in my underwear.

Needless to say…the dark guardians were not amused.  But it waspretty funny.  Reminds me of when someone told me about Lon Milo Duquette evoking the Goetic spirits into Pokemon form.  Little cartoon character versions of the Solomonic demons.  Nice…but make sure you never mispronounce or stutter that true name.  I’m sure that payback would be, most certainly, a bi-a-tch!

Happy Solstice and Yule and all that!

Leaping off cliffs

// July 22nd, 1997 // No Comments » // life the universe and everything

Trying to stage out my feelings.  Balance of the heart and of the head.  Fleshing out the inconsistencies.  I know what I feel, and I know what I know.  But I know very little else.  My heart is much more inexperienced than my body…or mind…or soul.  It is a child who dreams of knights in shining armor to take us away to faraway castles on horseback through mountains of untold splendor.

The brain says “bull-shite!!!”

The soul tries to balance, and I wish for a time, a space of in-between days to test the ability to mesh with the pragmatic truth.

But instead I have to be the Fool; leaping off cliffs into the unknown abyss.  I’ve succeeded in this before, but only in my reality.  now, with you, your cats, your computers, your virtual adept mind, can I manipulate the meta-verse with those odds?

Will you help me?

Or do I have to do it alone?
